Enjoy the Season, Stay in Control

As the track day season gets underway, it’s great to see more drivers and cars back out on circuit. Whether you’re returning after winter or heading out for your first event of the year, one thing matters most to us as your insurer: helping you enjoy every lap while staying safe and incident-free.

Track days bring together a wide range of drivers—different experience levels, different cars, different pace. That mix is part of what makes them so enjoyable, but it also means awareness and consideration go a long way in avoiding unnecessary accidents.

Overtaking: Keep It Clear and Predictable

Overtaking is one of the most common areas where incidents can happen, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. The key is to keep things simple and predictable. Stick to the event’s overtaking rules—typically on straights and often with a clear side indicated—and avoid last-minute or overly ambitious moves into corners.

A good overtake should feel easy for both drivers. If you’re passing, make sure you have a clear speed advantage and leave plenty of space. If you’re being overtaken, the best thing you can do is hold your line and lift slightly on the straight if needed. Small, predictable actions make a big difference.

Braking: Build in a Safety Margin

Braking zones are another place where things can go wrong, especially as sessions progress and components heat up. It’s tempting to push braking points later and later, but consistency is far more valuable than chasing a few extra metres.

Try to brake in a straight line, apply pressure smoothly, and give yourself a little extra margin—particularly early in the day or if conditions change. Remember, brake performance can fade over time, so leaving that buffer helps you stay in control lap after lap.

Sharing the Track: Stay Aware, Give Space

With more cars on track, awareness becomes your best tool. Regular mirror checks help you stay aware of faster drivers approaching, while looking further ahead helps you anticipate what’s happening in traffic.

Avoid following too closely. It might feel natural to chase the car in front, but it reduces your visibility and reaction time. Leaving a gap gives you options—and helps prevent small mistakes from turning into bigger ones.

Smooth Driving Is Safe Driving

Smooth inputs—on the steering, throttle, and brakes—don’t just improve lap times, they make your driving more predictable for others. Sudden movements can catch other drivers off guard, especially in busy sessions. A calm, progressive approach keeps the car balanced and reduces the chance of unexpected situations.

We’re Here to Help You Stay on Track

At the end of the day, a track day isn’t about proving anything—it’s about enjoying your car in a safe environment. The drivers who get the most out of their time are usually the ones who drive within their limits, stay consistent, and look out for others.

From our side, we’d always much rather see you finish the day with great memories than deal with the stress of an incident. A little extra care, awareness, and patience goes a long way toward keeping your season running smoothly.
